Sunday. Grande Parade des Nations Celtes.

We were up early on Sunday after four hours sleep to tune up for the Parade through the streets of Lorient. There were about 3500 musicians and dancers in the parade, in 87 bands! We were very lucky and stepped off in the second position, so we were done relatively early, and then got to watch / hear the parade until after 1430 in the afternoon.

In the afternoon, I had a quick look at the Trophèe MacCrimmon. It's a solo competition for the Highland bagpipe, with performers playing all of breton, scottish and irish music, with judges for each category. Contestants have to qualify in their own country, so there are about 2 or 3 from Scotland, Ireland, Brittany, Australia / New Zealand and North America. Some very nice playing. Other than that, we had a wonderful time soaking up the sun, and having some quiet beers in a pub...

At 1900 we had a rehearsal for the Nuit Interceltique [similar to the Nuit Magique - but with some different performers]. Again, things were running on French time, and by the time we were finished the performance after the rehearsal, it was after 0100. It was a long day.
